20 Years of Blogging!

2026 celebrates my 20th year of blogging on Ottsworld.com! Throughout the year, I am sharing a few stories and travel experiences for people who haven't been with me from the beginning.

In 2018, travel nearly killed me. I was taking my last niece to India as part of my Niece Project, and on the long-haul flight, I contracted blood clots in my legs unbeknownst to me. As I traveled through India, I felt 'off' and was struggling with chest pain and difficulty breathing. That's because the blood clots broke loose and lodged in my lungs as pulmonary emboli. If you want to hear the rest of the story and how I luckily survived this typical death sentence, take a listen to my interview on the podcast Taking a Breath from the National Blood Clot Alliance. I tell my story of how I survived thanks to a persistent doctor. Take a listen and learn about the risks, signs, and why women are more at risk of contracting clots.

This is why I'm such a huge advocate of wearing compression socks while traveling and why I teamed up with VIM & VIGR to create a fun design for their travel compression socks. Compression legwear will absolutely reduce your risk of contracting clots on long-haul flights, train rides, or long road trips. My 'Go Explore' socks have since sold out, but VIM & VIGR has so many cute designs to choose from all year long! Plus, you can get a discount by using my promo code - OTTSWORLD - for 15% off your order total.

Happy Travels!

Ride the Capitol Quest with Me 🚲

Dates: October 7-14, 2026
Cost: $3550 Max: 12 people - only 4 spots remain!

This fall, I’m opening up something I usually do solo — my Capitol-to-Capitol Quest. Join me cycling from Augusta, Maine, to Montpelier, Vermont, during peak leaf-peeping season, when New England explodes in golds, reds, and fiery oranges.

Quiet backroads, car-free trails, charming small towns, and a front-row seat to one of the most beautiful times of year in the U.S. Every detail is handled, local guides have our backs, and you get to be part of an epic story that connects generations, places, and people.

Patagonia ebike Small Group Tour

I have no idea why I still have room on this trip because it's one of the best trips I've ever taken in my 20 years of travel around the world! Ride an e-bike across the Patagonian steppe and into the shadows of the Paine Massif, stay in remote ranches, meet seasoned baqueanos, spot guanacos and wild horses, and end every day closer to one of Earth’s most iconic parks. It’s more than a vacation—it’s a transformational adventure that challenges, inspires, and delivers a story you’ll remember forever.

Hello Reader , Happy March!! This month, I wanted to kick off Women's History Month by highlighting women's travel and resources! Last fall, I led an all-women’s trek in Nepal with World Expeditions—and it reminded me just how powerful it is when women step outside their routines and into the unknown together. I watched women arrive, unsure of themselves, and leave standing at mountain viewpoints with a new sense of confidence and possibility. These trips aren’t just about where you...

Patagonia

Hello Reader , We are one month into 2026 and I'm finally getting around to putting together a little list of where to go in 2026. I was inspired by the New York Times list of 52 places that came out recently. If you haven't seen their list - I do recommend checking it out, they always do a great job. I did notice that one of my favorite and unknown places made their list this year (it's been in my Ebook, Where to Go and When, for years!). Check out #9 - Saba Island in the Caribbean! I...

Make your someday 2026

Hello Reader , What if “someday” didn’t live in that fuzzy future where dreams go to nap… what if someday was 2026? We all have those trips (or goals) we say we’ll do “when things slow down,” “when I have more time,” or “one of these days.” Trust me, I’ve used those excuses too. But here’s what I’ve learned after almost two decades of chasing adventures around the world: Life doesn’t magically make space for adventure — we have to decide it’s worth prioritizing. So what if this was the year...
