Hello Reader, Hello from Canada! Right now I'm at a stop in Jasper National Park doing a little work as my parents rest. We left Halifax and the Atlantic Ocean a week ago headed towards Vancouver and the Pacific Ocean! We've been on 3 different trains/routes and have one left - the Rocky Mountaineer - taking us from Lake Louise to Vancouver. We've slowly been moving up the 'luxe ladder' on each train and have saved the best for last. Traveling with my 89-year-old parents has been going pretty smoothly, and I've certainly learned a lot about the pace of travel when you are older. There are things I would've done differently...but overall - we are doing well. I'll share all of the things I learned after the trip! But the main thing is that we are having fun seeing Canada, and the magic of travel is taking hold. I love watching them interact with other travelers, and experience new things. In the meantime feel free to follow along on my stories on my social media channels - Instagram or Facebook to see how the luxury part of the trip goes! Only 4 Days Left to Enter the Go Explore Ireland GiveawayI am celebrating the launch of my cool new travel compression socks with VIM & VIGR by giving away a dream trip to Ireland including airfare, hiking boots from LOWA, travel hats from Wallaroo, and of course the new 'Go Explore' socks! A few new posts on the site to check out!
For the current trip I'm on with my parents, we all managed to use our carry-on suitcases, which has made our travels so much easier. I'm testing a few new items on this trip, and of course I brought my new VIM & VIGR travel compression socks for me and my mom!
Get your pair here and use code OTTSWORLD for 15% off your order!
I'm also testing out a new Merino-only brand called IBEX. I love the benefits of traveling in merino clothing - mainly because it doesn't need to be washed as often, thanks to the odor-resistant qualities of merino. I love this IBEX tank so far. It's really soft and comfortable, and I've worn it multiple times, and it still doesn't smell! This is definitely a great new travel top, perfect for hiking and adventure too!
I've packed my La Sportiva Jackal II trail running shoes which are perfect for walking around towns AND also sturdy enough for light hiking. Trail running shoes are a great item to pack in lieu of bulky hiking boots if you trip only includes a day or two of hiking.
And finally - my favorite carry-on 4 wheel suitcase is my Thule Aion - partnered with Thule packing cubes (the best packing cubes IMO)
If you want to experience Ireland but couldn't make one of my tours this year - check out Ireland Walk Hike Bike - they do custom tours, group tours, and self-guided itineraries through the west coast of Ireland! Use code OttsWorld2023 for 5% off their offerings.
Get $100 off at Adventure Life on your next custom trip anywhere in the world. Just tell them Ottsworld sent you!
Get 5% off your Patagonia travels with my friends at Chile Nativo! They will be running my Patagonia ebiking trip and I love them! Use code Ottsworld for 5% off ANY of their regular, non-custom programs (including W hiking and puma tracking).
If you plan a trip to Japan, check out OKU Japan for its incredible multiday hikes and cultural activities in lesser-known areas. Get a 5% Discount for people using code OTTSWORLD5.

Hello Reader, Years ago, I took a long-haul flight that changed my life—because I ended up in the ER with a blood clot and pulmonary embolism. I was lucky...really lucky that I survived. That experience made me start taking compression socks seriously, especially when I travel. Since then, VIM & VIGR compression socks have been a non-negotiable part of my carry-on. Read about my story of contracting blood clots while flying and how they were discovered When I went to VIM & VIGR and asked to...
Hello Reader, I hope you all had a great July 4th! I just finished another Capitol Ride - Salt Lake City, UT to Boise, ID! I rode 425 miles (against the wind for the last two days)! And this time I had two Logistics Queens - Diana and Jen. They took incredible care of me while I made it through the desert, the interstate, gravel roads, and super hot days! Thank God for their Super Soaker and good aim to keep me cool! I've now finished my 10th Capitol ride (about 3,500 miles in total!!) I...
Hello Reader, I know the headlines right now make you want to burrow under the covers and stay there. The world feels heavy, unpredictable, and, frankly, exhausting. But after clocking in a lot of international travel already this year, I’m here to tell you something hopeful: don’t give up on travel right now. In fact, lean into it. To my surprise (and maybe yours), the more I travel, the more I see people opening their arms wider, not closing them. I’ve been welcomed in ways that remind...
